Yearning to breathe free

November 19, 2011

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses
Yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

– excerpt from “The New Colossus”, a poem by Emma Lazarus (1849-1887)
This poem is inscribed on a bronze plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty.

That is an inspiring image, very beautiful. I love that a portion of a poem has been inscripted on it.
